The route

Day by day

  1. Day 01Slowing Down

    Arrival, Hammam and Argan Oil

    Driveairport welcome & transfer

The hushed courtyard of a Moroccan riad with a fountain and green plants

The weekend begins with an ancient gesture: stepping through the door of a riad and hearing the city's noise die against the cool of the courtyard. We welcome you with mint tea, then hand you to the hammam, the steam bath that has been a communal rite in Morocco for centuries — steam, black olive soap, the kessa glove that carries the days away, and finally a massage with the argan oil that Berber women have hand-pressed for millennia. You come out emptied of weight, your skin new. The evening is free: you can stay on the terrace watching swifts wheel over the minarets, or drift down to the square for a first dinner. There is no hurry; that is exactly the point.

  2. Day 02Body and Senses

    Sunrise Yoga, Gardens and Cooking

Driveon foot and in the gardens

A panoramic terrace over Marrakech with minarets and the snow-topped Atlas beyond

You wake with the city still asleep and climb to the terrace for an hour of yoga and meditation, as the first muezzin opens the dawn and the snow-topped Atlas lights up on the horizon. After an unhurried breakfast — warm bread, honey, olive oil, dates — you visit a botanical garden, perhaps the cobalt-blue Majorelle or Le Jardin Secret within the medina walls, where water and shade have always been the Moroccan idea of paradise. In the afternoon you get your hands in the dough: a cook guides you through a tajine and reveals the secret of ras el hanout, the spice blend that can hold more than twenty ingredients. Dinner is what you cooked, served by candlelight.

The Agafay Desert or the Ocean at Essaouira

    Driveapprox. 45 mi / ~1h (Agafay)

The stony hills of the Agafay desert at sunset with the Atlas behind

The last day is yours to choose. Some make for the Agafay desert, an hour from Marrakech: not sand but lunar hills of stone that turn violet at sunset, with the snow-topped Atlas behind; here a luxury eco-lodge offers an organic brunch, a Berber massage and a camel or quad ride among the crests. Others prefer to turn toward the ocean and reach Essaouira, the windswept white-and-blue town, for a lunch of fresh fish over the harbour, a walk along the Portuguese ramparts and a last massage before the return. Either way you come back to Marrakech with the rare sense of having genuinely slowed down, even if only for three days.
